Description
Rahab shelters the Israelite spies within the wall of Jericho and lowers one of them down by a rope from her window while another waits his turn in the shadows above. The stone wall, lattice windows, and hurried movements place the viewer at the dangerous moment when the men escape the king’s searchers and flee toward the hills. This scene comes from Joshua 2, where Rahab acts in faith after confessing that the LORD, the God of Israel, rules “in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.” Her hidden loyalty to Israel becomes a sign of mercy before judgment, and the cord at her window foreshadows the deliverance promised to her household. The artwork is suited for teaching on faith, courage, redemption, the conquest of Jericho, and God’s grace toward an outsider who trusts His word.
